things to do in Accra

Accra in my own little words can be referred to as a calmer version of Lagos with less chaos to get you screaming in your head. The people were very friendly and always willing to help. I even had a local pay for my fare one time and showed me the exact bus stop to Accra Mall.

Peace at Black Star Monument

I enjoyed the hospitality in Accra and it was a pleasure exploring this city in so little time. Here’s a list of things you can do if you ever find yourself in this city:

Explore Makola Market

This market reminded me of Balogun Market in Lagos. You can spend time exploring this huge market with variety of things to buy or simply just feed your eyes and watch locals getting by with their mundane activities.

If you are not up for exploring local markets, you can head to Accra mall. There are shops there that can appeal to you with traditional Ghanaian clothes and items. If not, spend your time window shopping or maybe catch a movie and have lunch at the food court.

Chill At Black Star Square

An afternoon at Black Star Square is highly recommended. Do yourself some good by having snacks handy as you just enjoy a view of Black Star monument and the Independence arch. You can also visit the beach behind the square which is less crowded than Labadi beach.

Kwame Nkrumah Park

As a history junkie, I really enjoyed visiting this park. It gave me more insight as to who Kwame Nkrumah was and what he stood for. Learn more about the founding father of Ghana as you visit the museum in the park and view some of his personal items and major milestones in pictures. There, also lies his burial site.

Visit The Arts And Crafts Center

Bargaining with David

There are quite a lot of shops at the Arts and Craft center where you can get unique Ghanaian crafts and artifacts. I would recommend you get an accessory made of original Kente fabric. Do ensure to bargain prices with the sellers as they can be over hyped.

Spend An Evening At Labadi Beach

You can relax at Labadi beach after a long day. There are several bars and shops where you can get something to munch on while you enjoy a sunset view. Most of the bars would probably be jamming some music so that won’t hinder you if you’re in the party mood.
